Dotterel Technologies takes the win in the 'Sensors and Payload' category! Dotterel is the global leader in drone acoustics, and has created the world’s first two-way communication payload for drones. Aerial Audio is comprised of a unique, highly directional microphone array and processor for drones that can capture target audio in front of the drone, while rejecting drone propeller noise and other loud environmental noise. The solution also comprises a speaker which allows an operator at a remote ground station to engage in real-time, two-way audio while the drone is in flight. This is enabling drones to evolve into communication tools, which will help save lives.

A novel system with lots of potentials and applications, making it a great innovation for drones. This valuable solution to a long-standing challenge (acquiring audio in real-time) has some very clever science hidden inside. Being the first to accomplish the usable audio link from a drone is an outstanding effort.
