GLOBHE Drones

About the project:

Winner of the ‘Medical and Healthcare’ award is GLOBHE Drones and its Maladrone project, using drones to locate malaria mosquito breeding sites faster and cheaper than ever before. Their associated digital platform, Crowddroning, helps scale the project by providing local pilots with paid freelance flying missions. The aim is that their detailed drone data on larval habitats will help limit severe disease outbreaks, increase economic impact by shifting from reactive response to proactive prevention, and increase business impact by providing local drone pilots with paid freelance gigs.

What Airwards Judges said:

This is a truly innovative approach to how drones could be used in healthcare beyond drone delivery. It’s also a very new concept of using crowdsourcing in drone technology for a good cause. I would love to see ways that this could be scaled and expanded and become a localised solution in Malaria endemic countries, so that local people can implement this easy-to-use solution.
