Rehkitzrettung Schweiz

About the project:

Ok, so of course drones saving baby animals had to win an award! Fawn Rescue Switzerland take the crown for the 'Agriculture' category due to their commitment to protecting wildlife from farm machinery during the grass harvest. Using their own technology and funding, Fawn Rescue Switzerland (www.rehkitzrettung.ch) rescued 1410 fawns in 2020. Not only that, but the project encourages wildlife enthusiasts and farmers to get involved by offering training for pilots. An incredible use of drones!

What Airwards Judges said:

A feel-good and useful project which leverages technology to save lives and farming production. This impressive and admirable operation is clearly having a significant impact, saving over 1400 fawns last year. It also has a very practical outcome, providing training and support to the pilot community. Combining the versatility of a drone with infrared cameras is new in this application, and the society approach is also innovative here (enlisting volunteers and going above and beyond the norm to do what is right for the wildlife across Switzerland). Overall, this is an excellent example of using drones for good.
